MLK JR. DRUM MAJOR AWARD
The Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major Award is a prestigious honor bestowed annually at the MLK Jr. Day Celebration in The Woodlands, Texas. This award recognizes individuals, families, groups, organizations, or businesses in our community who embody the spirit of selfless service, often working tirelessly to uplift others without seeking recognition or reward.

Inspired by Dr. King’s 1968 Drum Major Instinct sermon, the award highlights the importance of humility and the destructive nature of the desire for personal distinction. Instead, it celebrates those who lead by serving, demonstrating an enduring commitment to their community and the greater good.

Recipients of the Drum Major Award live ordinary lives but perform extraordinary acts of service. They are nominated for their daily, selfless actions that profoundly impact their community and our world. By honoring these individuals and groups, the award continues Dr. King’s legacy of fostering equality, compassion, and justice for all.

Past Drum Majors Include
Adriana Flower, Darlene Williams, Ann Synder, The Irons Family, Rita Wiltz, Elsa and Jimmie Dotson
